What you need to know:

  • Bold . Fahad Ssewankambo is a photographer working with Photo City Studios in Kajjansi. He spoke to Godfrey Lugaaju about battling stereotypes associated with his job.
  • What kind of woman would you want to date?
She should be the kind one would call a super woman, enthusiastic, hardworking and true to herself. One that I would understand easily and who will equally understand me.

Tell us briefly about yourself and what you do?
I am Fahad Ssewankambo, 26 also known as Kambo Shots. I am a photographer, creative thinker and musician signed under Boombox Muzik a new record label in Uganda. I am a big dreamer, creative, innovative and hardworking person. I am self-made.

What inspired your passion for photography?
Growing up with my childhood friend Pius Ssendege, we had this dream of starting an entertainment company. Our dream was to have one company that deals in artiste management, audio and video production (I still carry this dream) but the love for creating amazing stuff triggered my passion for photography.

What is your best camera, lens and why?
I don’t have a camera that I regard as my best, I have used various cameras and each experience is quite amazing. I have a favourite camera for every working condition, for example under low light I prefer using the Sony A7S. As a business person I currently own the Canon EOS 6D, relatively good in low light conditions doubles for both photography and videography.

For lenses, give me any fixed focal length (prime) lens and you have me, be it the 100mm or 135mm name it. Prime lenses force me to think more, move more, and ultimately create better and more interesting photographs.
What do you like the most about photography?
Photography is an amazing art where I give my imagination life. I have always expressed my thoughts or feelings with just pictures. It also helps capture memories forever, like my slogan ‘lasting memories.’

Photographers are sometimes taken to be womanisers, are you the kind?
Photographers are not womanisers, it is just one big misunderstanding. You know ladies love photos and they are our biggest client base. So you could probably see a lot of women in a photographer’s circle but the truth is most of us keep it professional.

Tell me of an exciting female photoshoot you have done?
I did a photoshoot with DJ Xzyl of Sanyu FM, Woow. It was an amazing experience dealing with a client that is equally creative, open minded, ready to explore, learn new things, and good at posing, with a flexible body.
How did it impact on you?
It helped me understand that clients also have brilliant ideas that they can bring on board during a shoot which when incorporated yield great results.
Are you married?

Not yet but I have been in three relationships.
Why aren’t you? Fearing commitment?
I am not afraid of commitment. I just want things to happen according to the story line of my life that I wrote. I plan to marry in 2020.

What excites you in a relationship?
If the love is real then the relationship will be full of excitement. Real love comes with fun, care, obligation and trust. All these excite me in a relationship.

What kind of woman would you want to date?
She should be the kind one would call a super woman, enthusiastic, hardworking and true to herself. One that I would understand easily and will equally understand me.
How often do you go on dates?
Not often. I guess I am not good at these because the talkative guy in me suddenly becomes silent on dates.

What puts you off in these relationships?
I will use the words one of my exes said; ‘Kambo your love is too good to be real,’ am this lover dovey guy that will shower a woman with lots of love.
