Club Guvnor murder: Suspect’s wife to testify

What you need to know:

In 2006, the Judiciary rolled out a programme where witnesses, by way of audio-visual technology, can give evidence during trial. While launching the initiative Chief Justice Bart Katureebe said a person can give evidence using the audio-visual technology where proceedings relate to sexual or violent offences for security reasons, safety of witnesses or if a witness lives outside Uganda or due to health considerations.

KAMPALA- High Court in Kampala has heard that the wife to the key suspect in the murder of Club Guvnor patron will on March 14 defend her husband via an audio-visual link.
The key suspect Ivan Kamyuka is charged with the murder of John Ahimbisbwe aka Jonnie.

Prosecution states that Kamyuka on August 2, 2015 murdered Jonnie at Guvnor Club on First Street in Industrial Area, Kampala.
The trial is presided over by Justice Wilson Kwesiga.
Kamyuka’s wife one Ms Nima Nyarwaka who lives in Sweden was expected participate in her husband’s defence through a remote hearing on Tuesday. However, the courtroom which is installed with reliable audio and visual technology was occupied.

Justice Kwesiga adjourned the case to a date when the courtroom will be vacant for the audial-visual testimony to proceed.
Last year, Mr Robert Omona, the Club Guvnor’s manager told court that Kamyuka and the deceased had been banned from the nightclub for six months for habitual fights.
