Five children burnt to death

Police are investigating the cause of the fire in a home that left five children of the same family dead in Butemba Township in Kyankwanzi District.

The five children were killed in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
The regional police spokesman Mr Norbert Ochom said investigations on what caused the fire are still ongoing but they suspect that it was due to an unattended candle.

The dead children are Hassan Musimbi, 12; Falidha Kakungulu, 10; Kamiyat Nambuya, 9; Akhram Wakholi, 7; and Hamida Nakituyi.

The deceased are children of Mohammed Ssali, a resident of the same area.
Police said the bodies have been taken to Kibogo Hospital for an autopsy.
It isn’t clear whether detectives are to summon the parents of the deceased children to establish where they were at the time the fire gutted the house.

Police warned against leaving children alone in the house with burning candles.
