GULU. The former Gulu Municipality MP, Mr Christopher Acire has been hospitalized with severe injuries after an irritated man cut his left arm with a mowing machine for allegedly underpaying him for the work done.

According to reports this reporter obtained, Mr Acire had hired the man only identified as Anywar to mow his compound where he is erecting a new building at Laliya trading centre, Bungatira Sub County in Gulu District.

It’s reported that after completing the work on Monday, Mr Anywar demanded for his pay but the former legislator paid him less than the agreed amount, which prompted the casual labourer to cut Mr Acire on the arm using the mowing machine. The incident happened on Tuesday evening.

How it happened?
Ms Suzan Lajul, a neighbour to Mr Acire, told this reporter in an interview on Wednesday that Mr Anywar had for the last two days been threatening to harm his boss over the payment which wasn’t made fully.

Ms Lajul noted that Mr Acire had promised to pay the casual labourer Shs80,000 for mowing the compound but upon completion, he was only paid Shs60,000.

Ms Lajul said the casual labourer since Monday had been demanding for the remaining Shs20,000, but in vain.

“On the fateful evening, I was seated on my veranda with my daughter, we saw the man fuelling his mowing machine outside Acire’s building. He later entered the building but shortly, I heard people screaming and running outside the gate,” Ms Lajul said.

She added that Mr Acire also later emerged from the building running while holding his bleeding arm crying for help.

Mr Mathew Lakwonyero one of Acire’s the employees said the victim was first rushed to Gulu Independent Hospital before being transferred to Kumi Orthopedic Hospital for additional treatment.

Mr Lakwonyero said Acire’s left was almost cut off.

Efforts to get comments from Mr Acire were futile as his known phone numbers were unavailable.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the incident, saying that police are investigating the matter.

He said a case was registered at Gulu Central Police station but noted that police are yet to record statements from Mr Acire and other family members.

The suspect by press time was still on the run.
