Bagyenda to appear before appointments committee over new job

The ex-director of Supervision for Commercial banks at Bank of Uganda, Ms Justine Bagyenda is today expected to appear before the appointments committee of parliament over her new appointment.

The committee chaired by the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga is scheduled to convene at 10:00AM to scrutinize new appointments to the Human Rights Commission, Education Service Commission and the Finance Intelligence Authority.

Ms Bagyenda was appointed as a member to the Finance Intelligence Authority, the same body investigating her for alleged collusion while still at the Central Bank.
A number of lawmakers have since questioned her appointment.

Ms Bagyenda is also under a separate investigation by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) over allegations of illicit accumulation of wealth while a motion demanding that a Select Committee be set up to investigate the operations of Bank of Uganda and her role in the closure of Crane Bank is on the Order Paper of Parliament.

Also appearing before the committee is Mr Leo Kibirago who was appointed as Board Chairperson for the Authority, Mr Patrick Ocailap, Mrs Patrica Mutesi and CIID boss, Grace Akullo.
