Man stabs friend to death over Shs4,000 debt

AGAGO- A 23-year-old man has died after he was stabbed by his friend over a Shs4,000 debt.

David Opoka, 25, a resident of Akwang Central Village, Taa Parish, Paimol Sub-county in Agago District reportedly passed on Sunday morning from Lubiri Village in Taa Parish after his colleague attacked him over failure to pay back the money.

The LC3 chairperson of Paimol Sub-county, Mr George William Mukasa, confirmed the incident to Daily Monitor in an interview yesterday, describing it as “unfortunate”.

According to Mr Mukasa, a man identified as Mr Bosco Pe-Ipar had struck a deal with the deceased to use his (Pe-Ipar’s) motorcycle a day before. He would later pay Shs4,000.

“When Pe-lpar came on the fateful day to demand for his money, Opoka told him he had no money. They began quarrelling before Pe-lpar pulled out a knife and stabbed Opoka to death,” he said.

The Agago Resident District Commissioner, Mr Charles Ray Okwi, said the deceased, who is a son of a local chief, pleaded with Pe-IPar to give him more time in vain.

“The incident was very barbaric, the matter was very small and could have been solved through dialogue. We condemn such acts of people taking the law into their own hands,” Mr Okwi said.

Mr Pe-IPar is currently hospitalised at Dr Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital in Kalongo Town Council in critical condition after being beaten by angry locals.

Another incident
According to Mr Okwi, the suspect will be taken to police for further investigations once his condition stabilises to face charges of murder.

In a related development, a 35-year-old man has been arrested by police in the same district after stabbing, to death a woman for rejecting his marriage proposal.

The suspect identified as Bosco Oyet reportedly stabbed Viola Apiyo, 35, several times from her home last Sunday. The incident happened at Olung Kweyo Village, Olung Parish in Lukole Sub-county.
According to reports from local leaders, the suspect had intended to inherit the deceased’s property after her husband died some months ago but she did not accept.

Mr Okwi said on the fateful day, the suspect went to Apiyo’s home armed with a knife and began stabbing her.
“The deceased was taken to Dr Ambrosoli hospital but she died shortly upon arrival after over bleeding,” Mr Okwi said.
