Rakai- Police in Rakai District have arrested a man for allegedly possessing a gun illegally.

The suspect is a resident of Kawempe, a Kampala suburb.

The suspect, according to police, has been on the run after allegedly shooting his wife. He accused her of adultery.

Mr Lameck Kigozi, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson said they are likely to transfer the suspect to Kawempe Police Station where appropriate charges will be preferred against him.

He said police were alerted by some residents of Rakai Town Council who saw the suspect with the gun in public places like bars, yet he had just settled in the area.

Mr Kigozi, however, did not divulge details about the suspect saying they are investigating.

Last week, police in Masaka arrested six suspects who were found in possession of several guns. They were suspected of being highway robbers.

“Court has not helped us at all because most of the suspects we arrest over such crimes are always granted bail and released,”Mr Latif Zaake, the regional police commander said.
