Nine remanded over Susan Magara murder

- The accused are; Patrick Kasaija, Yusuf Lubega, Hussein Wasswa, Muzamiru Ssali, Hajara Nakandi, Abubaker Kyewolwa, Mahad Kasalita, Hassan Kato Miiro and Ismail Bukenya.
Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has remanded nine to Luzira prison over the murder of Suzan Magara.
The accused are; Patrick Kasaija, 36, Yusuf Lubega, 32, (a boda boda rider), Hussein Wasswa,22 (a hawker), Muzamiru Ssali,27 (boda boda rider), Hajara Nakandi, 35 (a teacher), Abubaker Kyewolwa, 30 (a businessman), Mahad Kasalita (an Imam at Usafi Mosque), Hassan Kato Miiro, 22, and Ismail Bukenya (businessman).
They are charged with two counts which include kidnap with intent to procure a ransom and murder both contrary to sections of the Penal Code Act.
The charges were read to them in a session presided over by the Magistrate, Mr Charles Yeteise. However, they could not take plea since the charges against them are capital in nature and cannot be heard by magistrate’s court.
Magistrate Yeteise opted to remand them until June 1 for committal to the High Court once inquiries are completed.
Prosecution contends that the accused persons and others still at large on February 7, 2018 kidnapped Magara, a cashier with Bwendero Dairy Farm (BDF), with intent to procure a ransom or benefit from her liberation from the danger of being murdered.
It further stated that the accused and others still at large, on February 27 at Kigo in Wakiso district, murdered Magara.
Police records indicate that the deceased (Magara), was kidnapped while driving to her home in Lungujja, Rubaga Division and taken captive for 20 days until she was murdered without security agencies having a clue where the killers were.
