Kampala.

Police authorities on Tuesday interrogated Pastor Samuel Kakande of Synagogue Church of All Nations in Mulago over a case involving his deputy who was found with two guns and 87 bullets.

Mr Andrew Kaweesi, the police spokesperson, yesterday told Daily Monitor that police interrogated Pastor Kakande because his deputy Pastor Johnson Muwanguzi insisted the two guns police recovered from his home belong to his boss (Pastor Kakande). Pastor Muwanguzi was arrested last week over illegal possession of two assault rifles and 87 bullets. Upon his arrest, Pastor Muwanguzi told police the guns belonged to his boss Pastor Kakande, something the latter vehemently denied during police interrogation.

“Pastor Muwanguzi insists the guns belong to his boss even though the documents show they belong to him,” Mr Kaweesi said.

Although Mr Kaweesi could not divulge the date Pastor Kakande was grilled, a source at Special Investigation Unit (SIU) in Kireka where Pastor Muwanguzi is being detained, said Pr Kakande recorded the statement on Tuesday. When Daily Monitor contacted the alleged Pastor Kakande’s personal assistant, a one Kayanja, he said his boss had no time for the media.

“What the media has been doing is unprofessional. Put yourself in my shoes, what would you have said? I can’t be in his shoes to speak to you,” Mr Kayanja said.

Mr Kaweesi told Daily Monitor last week that the procurement and registration documents show the guns belong to Pastor Muwanguzi who has since failed to explain how guns belonging to Pastor Kakande were purchased and registered in his name.

A source at SIU said Pastor Muwanguzi’s arrest came after a man of Asian descent identified as Patel Kurash was found with a pistol and nine bullets which he would use to threaten civilians.

Mr Kurash is said to have mentioned Pastor Muwanguzi during interrogation, prompting the police team to go to Mr Muwanguzi’s home in Bukoto, a Kampala suburb, where they recovered the two guns and 87 bullets.
