Suspected kidnappers arrested in Kibuku

  • The District Police Commander, Mr Sowali Kamulya confirmed the arrests and said the victim, identified as Norah Nakoma, a resident of Kadama town council, who was kidnapped on the night of May 20 in Kadama trading centre, was later found on Sunday morning, May 27.
  • She was reportedly found abandoned near River Mpologoma along Mbale-Tirinyi road.

Police in Kibuku District have arrested three family members suspected to be involved in the kidnapping of a 24-year-old woman.

Bukedi region police spokesperson, Mr Sowali Kamulya confirmed the arrests and said the victim, identified as Norah Nakoma, a resident of Kadama town council, who was kidnapped on the night of May 20 in Kadama trading centre, was later found on Sunday morning, May 27. She was reportedly found abandoned near River Mpologoma along Mbale-Tirinyi road.

“The kidnappers abandoned her near River Mpologoma. A boda boda rider who found her stranded volunteered and took her to Tirinyi Police station,” Mr Kamulya said, adding that police had searched for her in vain.

The case of kidnap was reported on 20/05/18 at Kadama police station in Kibuku District under SD Ref. 04/22/05/2018.
Mr Kamulya said they have so far managed to arrest three suspects to help with investigations but more are still at large.
He identified the suspects as Maria Kadondi Gorret, 50, the victim’s step mother, Moses Kiirya, 32 and Fabian Wabulwa, 23. Kiirya and Wabulwa are step brothers to the victim.

Mr Kamulya explained that Nankoma was kidnapped after she had gone to the trading centre to buy roasted chicken by two men who persuaded her to follow them.

He added that the preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was kidnapped by her family members over family properties.

“We have, in custody, one of the suspects who had threatened to kidnap the her over family misunderstandings on assets,” he said.

He explained that the victim is currently admitted at Kibuku Health Centre IV undergoing medication after she sustained severe injuries on different parts of her body believed to have inflicted to her by the kidnappers.

However, the victim narrated to Daily Monitor that that she was kidnapped by men and taken to place she could not identify.
“I was detained into a house and I heard the people were speaking Lusoga. Later in the evening, they brought in two other women and locked us together,” she said.
