Dr Kizza Besigye yesterday campaigned in Nakapiripiriti and Amudat districts on his second leg of campaigns in Karamoja sub-region, promising to set up a cement factory to process the lime rocks from the semi-arid sub-region.
The rallies, especially in Nakapiripiriti, were largely devoid of the usual excitement that is characteristic of the FDC candidate’s rallies with even his promises of improving the lives of the Karimojong drawing mild cheers.
“In Tororo they make cement from Amudat rocks and call it Tororo cement,” Dr Besigye said at Lolichat Sub-county headquarters in Nakapiripiriti District.
He reiterated the promise he made weeks ago when he campaigned in other districts of the sub-region of letting Karamoja have its own government, which he said will cater for the formation of such industries.
However, many of the people in the audience were carried away by other things, approaching occupants of different vehicles asking for money. Because the money was not forthcoming, some of the people, angry, would then brandish the thumbs for the ruling party, chanting “no change”.
