What you need to know:

  • The compound was littered with placards reading 'we don't want the principle and accountant.'
  • Police still does not know the intention of the people who locked the office

LIRA. Staff members and students of Uganda technical college, Lira on Monday woke up to find themselves locked out of their offices and lecture rooms respectively.
The college principal, Nathan Talwana’s office was also locked by unknown people.
The compound was littered with placards demanding for the school bus and instructing him to immediately leave the college.
There is already heavy deployment at the school as police breaks padlocks that were used to lock the buildings.
“All of us are surprised, I woke up to take my child to school and found placards reading 'we don't want the principle, accountant and other staffs.’ They accused the said staff members of being corrupt. The students started asking us what was happening since they were not aware of the incident,” said the College’s Public Relations Officer, Abas Nabiata.
He added: “We have called the police to help us break those padlocks because we couldn't do it ourselves. We still do not know the intention of the people who locked the office.”
He told this reporter that he has no issues with anyone except the wrangle between the university and Ireda primary school over land but they are on the verge of solving the contention.
"I want to make it clear that this incident is hundred percent being influenced by outsiders who want to make students strike. Now they locked staff members, especially cooks, to force these students to strike,” added Mr Nabiata.
