Creating a memorable festive experience

There is more to celebrating Christmas than feasting and lounging, what if you went for a road trip or diving into charity

What you need to know:

A new kind of x-mas. There is more to celebrating Christmas than feasting and lounging, what if you went for a road trip or diving into charity. Pauline Bangirana explores different ways you can still make this Christmas memorable without sticking to the script.

Come, they told me para pampam I am certain that you have heard this song and many more like this during this season. It is one sure way of knowing Christmas is indeed around the corner.
From radio stations, supermarkets to local shops, everyone is playing Christmas songs while corporate companies will be in that giving mood with offers while audio visual media will too get to those timeless holiday movies.
But hey, as the Christmas draws closer, what are your plans for making the day memorable? These are various ways you can enjoy Christmas outside the normal feasting and sleeping later in the day.

Photo shoot
Besides this being an activity of the past, you can try spending this Christmas in a studio for a professional photo shoot. Some families though choose to do this earlier on to enable themselves create a family Christmas card.

Charity
Deliberately decide to be someone’s Santa this Christmas. Whether you are upcountry or uptown, Bettina Atuhairwe says that every time you give something to a less privileged person, it comes with a joy that is indescribable. She says that making the difference is being the Santa to someone on the actual day.

Break out
Martha Nambogo shares that her most memorable Christmas was the one she spent alone. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, I found myself alone on December 25, 2017 and yet it turned out more memorable and unique compared to the rest.”
However Nambogo shares that what made it memorable was the adventure and activity that followed because she decided to go all out and spend on herself thereafter enjoying a meal at a restaurant she always thought was a waste of money.
Perhaps you wish to do something else, dedicate time this Christmas season and decide to break out of your comfort zone and do something you always wished to do. It could be a recipe or anything else. Whatever you decide, remember that this is about making this year’s celebration memorable.

Road trip pictures
This might be the nth time you are travelling to your village but look out for areas that are fast developing or have changed and take some crazy pictures in those areas.
You can never go wrong with such pictures especially in company of loved ones. Rachel Akul shares that this has become a family tradition and every time they are travelling to the village, road trip pictures are a must and she says, they carry a lot of stories.

Stay In
To the introvert or loner, staying in might be ideal and Collins Muhaise shares that one can decide to make Christmas memorable by creating a memorable typical no chores day filled with movies, TV shows and sleeping on the couch. Do something that appeals to you and you have always wanted to do but never had the time to especially if you have the house to yourself.
If it finds you at the workplace, eating out will be ideal or doing something that ideally you would not do with your bosses, supervisors or fellow colleagues around.

Set a fire place
Paul Mulumba, a travel advisor recommends that for those that have traveled with family and friends, you can create a round fire and have barbeque, drink up or even tell stories as you celebrate Christmas. This will create wonderful memories and an atmosphere that draws you all closer.
There are so many ways to make Christmas memorable for you and your loved ones.
Whichever mode of celebration you decide on taking, let it be one that is aimed at creating satisfaction and fulfilment. Wishing you a merry Christmas!
