MBARARA. A former head teacher of Maryhill High School has been hailed for her support to the girl-child education cause.
During a function to bid her farewell at the school on Sunday, speaker after speaker lauded Ms Margaret Mungeni Atim for modelling academically and spiritually rich students.
“I have known and interacted with Atim for long but every time we met, she always had questions on how best she can see her girls succeed in future,” said Mbarara town clerk Johnson Baryantuma.
Kashari MP Wilberforce Yaguma said the school has had a reputation in and outside the country partly because of the able leadership of Ms Atim.
“She joined this school, which was started and led by the sisters as a lay person, but withstood all challenges to put the school high both in academic excellence and discipline. She has left a mark that her predecessors need to keep very well,” said Mr Yaguma.

Atim speaks out
In her farewell speech, Ms Atim attributed her success to the support of Mbarara Archdiocese leadership, the government, school board of governors and PTA executive, staff and non-teaching staff.
Her successor, Sister Anastanzia Asiimwe, promised to keep the spirit Ms Atim has left but appealed for support from all stakeholders in and outside the school community.
