Jubilation as Mityana Christians welcome new Bishop

It was a moment of joy and thanksgiving as hundreds of Christians in Mityana Diocese officially welcomed their new bishop Dr James Bukomeko.
Dr Bukomeko, who has been Archdeacon of Nansana Archdeaconry, Wakiso District entered Mityana on Monday afternoon, in a motorcade led by youthful priests and Anglican Catholic faithful who led him from Kagavu Trading Centre, where Namirembe archdiocese borders Mityana Diocese, to St, Andrew’s Cathedral, Namukozi.
The motorcade paralyzed traffic along the Kampala Mityana Highway and for many hours as it snaked through Mityana Town to Namukozi hill.
Rev Dr James Bukomeko was elected the fifth Bishop of Mityana Diocese last November, succeeding the Rt Rev Dr Stephen Kazimba who was elected the ninth Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
He will officially be consecrated and enthroned as new bishop on Sunday, February 2 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Namukozi.
On arrival, Rt Rev Kazimba received Dr Bukomeko and took him to the cathedral for a special prayer.
Rt Rev Kazimba was being supported by the retired bishops Wilson Mutebi and George Ssenabulya.
In his message, Dr Bukomeko commended Christians for praying for him to become bishop.
He urged Christians in Nansana to always check on him in Mityana.
"Please don't drop me here and abandon me forever. I will not succeed without your support, pray for me and always support God's work,” Dr Bukomeko said.
Rt Rev Kazimba warned Christians against hatred and endless fights, which he said will stiff development of the diocese.
"Stop fighting each other, avoid conflicts, preach the word of God, spread the love of God , that's the only way we can develop this nation". He said.
He urged Christians in Mityana not to make comparisons between him and his successor as they both are different people.
“Love your bishop the way you have been doing it to me, support him in all necessities that takes forward Mityana Diocese," Rt Rev Kazimba said.
He also urged Rev Bukomeko to create a good working relationship with all Christians to serve the Lord.
