KCCA gets 1.9billion equipment to track lawlessness on Kampala streets
KAMPALA.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has received a donation of $750,000 (approximately Shs1.95 billion) multi-media trunking equipment to aid it in monitoring and tracking down on lawlessness on the Kampala streets.
A Chinese Telecommunications Solutions Company, Huawei Technologies Company Ltd made the donation at a function attended by President Yoweri Museveni, Chinese officials and KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi at state house Entebbe on Monday.
KCCA spokesperson, Peter Kaujju, said the equipment will help the authority in combating lawlessness in the city by tracking illegal street vendors, illegal street parking, motorists and commuter taxis that default payment of KCCA fees.
The Huawei Vice President for Africa and Middle East Region, Mr Li Dafeng, informed president Museveni that the ultra-modern end to end multi-media tracking system significantly reduces the critical mission response time as it has the capacity to handle emergencies and will go a long way in providing more security to the country.
This means that KCCA, police and other security agencies will have less time to spend running after suspects on the streets but rather monitor them in control room at KCCA using the installed gadgets and later hand-pick them (suspects) during the KCCA enforcement operations.
Ms Musisi signed the receivership certificate on behalf of government, while Mr Radoslaw Kedzia, the managing director of Huawei Technologies (Uganda) Company Ltd, signed the hand over certificate on behalf of his company.
