Kyambogo University disowns suspected killer of Catholic cleric

Robert Asiimwe, a prime suspect in the murder of Brother Norbert Emmanuel Mugarura, the Superior General of Brothers of St Charles Lwanga, commonly known, as Bannakarooli Brothers of Kiteredde in Kyotera District, was not a student of Kyambogo University.
According to a statement by Mr Reuben Twinomujuni, the univesity's Senior Public Relations Officer, much as Asiimwe was admitted to study at the institution last year, he neither registered as a student nor attended class, which disqualified from becoming their student.

Last week, the country received with shock the news of the brutal murder of Bro. Emmanuel Norbert Mugarura. At first, both social and traditional media reports were a mixture of so many things. However, as the story keeps getting clearer, one thing remains blurred – the association of Robert Asiimwe with Kyambogo University.
Asiimwe, the man suspected to have killed Mugarura, was admitted to Kyambogo University last year (2018); so he has an admission letter of Kyambogo University No.18/U/ASD/4366/PD.
He was admitted to study for a degree in Bachelor of Administrative Science. He paid all the fees for that first semester but neither studied nor registered.
Having an admission letter does not make one a student of a given university. For example, there are students in other universities bearing the Kyambogo University admission letter.
Conversely, there are Kyambogo University students bearing admission letters of other universities. What makes anyone a student of a given university is registration, not an admission letter or the fact that they have paid tuition fees.
Many a time, when one fails to study during the first semester for whatever reason, they may make an appearance in the second semester to resume their studies; this may include registering, applying for a dead semester or a dead year.
They may also come back to show some form of interest and commitment to studies. Asiimwe did none of these, and unlike the first semester when he paid and didn’t study, he neither paid a thing nor studied for the second semester.
Robert should have been in the holiday just like all other Kyambogo University students. In his statement to police, he says he is a business man and resident of Banda B9.
