LDU officer shoots Sub County chairperson dead

Mr Dan Apollo the sub county LC3 chairperson of Rupa sub county in Moroto District has been shot dead.
Apollo who is the elder brother to Mr David Pulkol the former government spy, was shot dead by personnel of the Local Defence Unit on Tuesday morning in Kidepo in Moroto.
The incident that happened at 8am on Tuesday 17 has sent shock waves in the area.
Mr Joseph Lokiru one of the residents of Kidepo in Rupa sub county said the LDUs who are attached to a detach located in Kalosarich grazing area had come and wanted forcefully to take away impounded animals suspected to be stolen from Kotido. The animals are suspected to have been raided by the Matheniko of Moroto.
“As locals we didn’t want the LDUs to take away the animals without the presence of our leaders so we called our LC3 chairperson Mr Dan Apollo to come. Immediately he arrived, the LDUs shot him dead,” Lokiru said.
Andrew Napaja the district LCV chairperson confirmed the death of the sub county chairperson describing it as sad news.
Stella Atyang the Woman MP for Moroto District appealed to the army to do what it takes to bring the culprits to book.
Maj. Telesphar Turyamumanya confirmed the incident but requested to be given appropriate time to comment.
“Yes, the incident happened but we are still busy I will give the media statement after we handle the situation,” he said.
