Mayiga worried about social media malice targeting Baganda
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga is worried over what he termed as a calculated conspiracy to destroy the character of some prominent Baganda on social media platforms.
"They [some groups] are specially targeting those in high profile positions. People in high positions are being witch hunted and blackmailed," Mr Mayiga said on Monday during the opening of Buganda Kingdom Great Lukiiko on Monday at Bulange, Mengo.
He said that the unfounded malicious allegations are being published on social media networks platforms.
"And although such allegations are baseless, some people believe in them and this has reduced public regard to our people," Mr Mayiga said.
He said many publications have alleged how some people received millions of dollars in bribes and wondered the kind of investor who can spend such amounts to bribe yet in 2018, foreign investors injected less than $200 million into the country.
Mr Mayiga also expressed sadness over allegations about the victims MV Templar boat that sank last year in Lake Victoria killing over 30 people.
"Can you imagine some people went on social media and alleged that some people had gone to the boat to sacrifice?" he wondered.
Mr Mayiga re-echoed Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s end of year message which called for independent anti-corruption bodies that should prosecute suspected corrupt officials.
He said the Kabaka also underscored integrity and caution during service delivery and also called on Baganda youth to develop a saving culture to attain financial success.
He said investment clubs are also key for development.
