Renowned educationist Canon Godfrey Njagala dies at 75

  • In 2011 when Namirembe FM went on air, Canon Njagala became its first station manager.

Cannon Godfrey Njagala, a great teacher, preacher, witness of Christ and promoter of vocal gospel music succumbed to cancer on March 30.
His death was announced by his family at Mengo hospital where he had been admitted for some time. Njagala who died at 75, was admired and honoured for much of his life. He was a renowned educationist and evangelist.
Praised for his contribution towards the education sector, Njagala empowered many in the education fraternity. Njagala who was a former student of Namutamba Teachers’ College graduated as a grade II teacher. In the late 1960s started off his teaching career at Namutamba Demonstration School as a mathematics teacher.

Later in the 1980s he furthered his education to a degree level at Makerere University. Upon graduating, he become head teacher of Makerere High school, while at there he was known for his strong believe in discipline as the only way through which students could excel in their academics and so he became so tight on matters of discipline considering the fact that the school was located right at the city Centre.
The success of the school during his time was tremendous. He groomed students with Christian virtues through strong scripture union program that was started by him.
He was the brain behind the innovation of grown-ups going for further education at the level of Ordinary and Advanced Certificate of Education at Makerere High School.

He went on to work with different schools like Buloba High school, Buloba Demonstration School, Seroma High School, Cleveland Hill School, Mityana Secondary School, Elite High School, Yogemu Primary School, Naalya High School. Njagala also extended his horizons to higher institutions leaning like, Ndejje University,
Expanding the kingdom of God, Njagala has been a presenter of the Sunday morning gospel show on radio star since 1999 when he joined as veteran journalist. He used the radio to further the word of God and because of his exemplary Christian life and devotion towards the Church of Uganda, in 2005 he was honoured with the title of a canon by Bishop Copliano Bukenya. In 2011 when Namirembe FM went on air, Canon Njagala became its first station manager.

Njagala is survived by his wife, Miriam Njagala and nine children one of whom is a Reverend.
Through the years, Njagala’s was defined as a family man, who never missed day without talking about his wife and children. Njagala has also been a strong pillar in the marriage institute, counselling and guiding couples. On April 2 he was put to rest at his ancestral burial grounds at Busense Masaka
