Rt Rev Kazimba marks 11 years as Mityana diocesan bishop

Hundreds of Christians have thronged St. Andrews Cathedral, Namukozi, to attend a thanks giving ceremony for Rt Rev Dr Samuel Stephen Kazimba to thank God for enabling him serve as the diocesan bishop for eleven years.

St.Andrews Cathedral is a seat of Mityana Diocese. Rt Rev Kazimba was in August elected the Archbishop of Uganda, a position he will officially assume on March 1 next year.

While preaching during the service, the bishop Emeritus of Central Buganda Diocese Rt Rev George Ssenabulya commended Kazimba for the different projects he has created in the diocese during his 11 year tenure.

He mentioned among others the project to boost the living standards of priests, in addition to the construction of the cathedral and diocesan headquarters.

In his remarks, Rt Rev Kazimba asked the congregation to pray for the process of electing a new bishop.

“Like I have said before we need someone who is going to ensure continuity by building on the strong foundation we laid,” he said.

The diocesan synod has already appointed a 15 member committee which is supposed to vet two suitable candidates to replace Bishop Kazimba. The new bishop is expected to be announced in the first week of November.

Earlier, before the service, Rt Rev Kazimba first visited St Elizabeth Girls SS where he prayed for senior six candidates who are yet to sit for their final examinations.

Ms Slyvia Namabidde, the school director also commended the bishop for his preaching which she said have positively impacted the people of Mityana.

Bishop Kazimba asked parents to take extra care of the boy children saying that many times, it is girls who are catered for and the boys are left to fend for themselves while still at a tender age.

Rt Rev. Kazimba, has served as Mityana Diocesan Bishop since October 28, 2008.

He replaced Bishop Dr. Dunstan Kopriano Bukenya .During his tenure Rt Rev Kazimba has been credited for superintending many development projects in the diocese with the most outstanding being the construction of the 3,000-seater St. Andrews Cathedral at Namukozi Hill, which also serves as the diocesan headquarters .
