Two children get lost, 62 recovered at Namugongo

Two children are missing after getting lost from their relatives during prayers in honour of Uganda Martyrs at Namugongo Martyrs Shrine on Monday.

Deputy Police Spokesperson, Ms Polly Namaye said on Tuesday that the two children went missing from their mothers.

Ms Namaye identified the missing children as Batesa Kwikiriza, 12, and Joshua Kibalama.

She said that they recovered 62 children who got lost from their relatives at the shrine.

Ms Namaye said out of the 62 children who went missing, 58 were recovered and united with their relatives while four are being cared for at the Central Police Station in Kampala.

Meanwhile, the deputy spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police, Mr Luke Owoyesigire says 11 suspects were arrested at Namugongo over alleged theft of phones and other items from pilgrims.

The said that they received 35 cases, out of which 31 are theft of mobile phones.

 He said they have recovered only 5 mobile phones.
