What you need to know:

  • According to a source in the federation, the committee’s ruling will be communicated as soon as they pronounce themselves on the matter. The matter is the first major case to be handled since Fufa inducted the judicial bodies in a day-long workshop at Imperial Royal in Kampala a fortnight ago.

KAMPALA. The Fufa Appeals Committee sat at Mengo yesterday to hear appeals from banned referees Ronaldie Kirangwa and Samuel Kakembo.

Kirangwa, a Grade I Fufa referee was slapped with a three-year ban in November last year while Kakembo was reprimanded with a 5-year suspension by Fufa.

The punishments followed controversy in the 1-1 draw in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League game between Express FC and SC Vipers at Wankukukuku in November last year.

Fufa acted on the advice of the Referees Disciplinary Panel and the Fufa Referees Standing Committee to mete the punishments, but gave the culprits chance to appeal, which they duly did. And the Appeals Committee, chaired by lawyer Diana Nabuuso convened to hear the appeals at Fufa House yesterday.

Other members on the committee are Musa Kabega (vice chairman), Sabiiti Muwanga, Hussein Lwembawo and Livingstone Lajan.

According to a source in the federation, the committee’s ruling will be communicated as soon as they pronounce themselves on the matter. The matter is the first major case to be handled since Fufa inducted the judicial bodies in a day-long workshop at Imperial Royal in Kampala a fortnight ago.

Fufa president Moses Magogo, who presided over that function, reiterated the federation’s desire to become the model body for Africa on and off the pitch.
“As Fufa, we shall give the judicial team necessary support.

Those that are found guilty must be put to book while the innocent ones need to be given their liberty to serve football again in a fair and transparent process,” Magogo said.
Former Uganda Cranes player Dan Obote who is a member on the Dispute Resolution chamber promised to have cases settled amicably.
