What tools do I need in the car?

Tool box

Hello Paul, I have recently learnt how to drive and have just bought my first car from a bond, a Toyota Raum. The car did not have any tools and only had a small spare tyre. What do I need to buy for emergencies? Kennedy

Hello Kennedy, it is good to always be prepared. You need to get wheel changing tools, an emergency kit and a simple set of tools to help get you back on the road in case of a breakdown. Wheel changing tools are a jack, its handle and the wheel spanner. You can pick quality used ones from Kisekka Market or new ones from big supermarkets with car sections such as Game at Lugogo.
An emergency kit should include reflective triangles to alert oncoming traffic, a tow rope and wheel braces. You can get an electric tyre inflator and jump leads for the odd occasion when your battery runs down and you need help from another motorist to jump start it. A basic tool kit can have flat and star screw drivers, fix and ring spanners numbers 8, 10, 12, 13 and pliers. These can also be bought at a supermarket.
