The kinetic mechanism is a top-notch technology

Every time one thinks of a kinetic watch, they think Seiko. True, Seiko Kinetic watches are timepieces that utilise the power from the human body to keep the watch running. There are no batteries needed and the wearer should not have to wind the watch to keep it going. A big selling point with kinetic watches is their energy saving ability and their accuracy. Kinetic watches never need winding or a battery change. They are capable of storing energy for up to six months and most of them have power reserve indicators that show how much power is stored within.

The kinetic mechanism works in a very simple way. The movement of your hand actually rotates a rotor, which after going through a series of tiny gears drives the main motor inside the watch. This motor converts this movement (kinetic energy) into electricity, which is thereafter stored into a very small capacitor. This capacitor is like a rechargeable battery and powers up the watch’s main mechanism.

For most people, the greatest advantage is convenience. The biggest problem with standard watches is that the battery runs down every few years and the watch stops. That is a nuisance because to get the watch running again, you have to take it to a watch repairer and have the battery replaced. That never happens with a kinetic watch. Worn regularly, a kinetic watch will never stop as it continually generates and stores electricity.
Consequently, it is virtually maintenance free. Since the battery never needs to be changed, there is little need to open the case. As a matter of fact, these watches are vacuum-sealed. That eliminates problems that can occur when the case is opened, like dust or dirt getting into the mechanism or damage to the water-resistant seal when a battery is changed.

These watches also have built-in sensors that tell the wearer if the watch has been inactive for at least 24 hours. If the watch senses this, it will automatically put itself to sleep, which is called suspended animation. To awaken the watch, the wearer simply gives it a shake of the wrist and it will automatically reset the time and the date. Kinetic watches have the ability to reset themselves even if they have been suspended for up to four years.

A kinetic watch enhances your bond with your watch as you power it with your daily life activities. The kinetic mechanism is a top-notch technology and will make you a proud owner.
