Do testes determine the sex of a child?

What you need to know:

People with a single testis may have had the other one arrested along its way from the abdomen. Testes form in the abdomen but descend to reach the scrotum at the time of birth

Dear Doctor: Is it true that men with one testis only sire male children? I know two people who only have boys and only have one testis.
— Kato

Dear Kato: People with a single testis may have had the other one arrested along its way from the abdomen. Testes form in the abdomen but descend to reach the scrotum at the time of birth.
It is rare to have one testis because the other was not formed. Your worries about having only one gender offspring are mythical.
The truth is there is no problem with one testis if it is normal and one can get mixed gender offspring. The problem with the lost second testis, however, is that it usually gets damaged and turns cancerous. Finding it and operating it or putting it in the scrotum for easier monitoring is therefore important.
