Hajjat madina launches bibuuza
What you need to know:
One hit album!
Downtown anthem. When Hajjat Madina’s debut song Bibuuza became a hit, with high rotation on the Luganda FM stations, she decide to cash in on it with an “album launch” never mind that it’s the only song of hers that the public knows. She pieced together four other songs to complete the album.
Bibuuza, loosely translated means, “they are asking.” It is the title of the song Hajjat Madina launched on Friday to a full house at Club Obligatto. It is another of those songs you will listen to and get tickled given its hilarious lyrics. Madina goes on and on lamenting about spoons, cows, goats and pillows relentlessly asking her where the man of the house went. And as much as you would want to feel her pain for the loss of her lover, you will be equally tickled.
Hajjat Madina was overwhelmed by the crowds at her show. She fell to her knees to thank the crowd in Luganda for turning up and showing her support. “I cannot believe this. I would like to thank each and every one who had helped me to this day. Fred Muwanguzi thank you for writing for me this song that made me a star,” she said, flanked by emcee Charles James Ssenkubuge of the Bakayimbira Dramactors.
Anyhow, she had four other songs to fix on a CD so she could have a ‘local album’ ready to launch in a concert she dubbed Bibuuza.
Her promoter pastor Augustine Yiga gave her the biggest contribution of a promise to buy her a car after much of the crowd had bought her CD at Shs10, 000 and Shs5,000, which didn’t fetch much. This was in addition to the chief guest, Kawempe Mayor Hajji Mubarak Munyagwa’s pledge of Shs6m.
“The lord mayor of Kampala, His Worship Elias Lukwago has sent his apologies for not being able to turn up but he says that he will make it for the next album launch,” Munyagwa delivered Lukwago’s apologies as he made his pledge.
