India Day celebrated at Kati Kati Grounds
The event was glamorous and the audience was passionate as the Indian community in Uganda celebrated the India Day in Kampala. The celebrations started with a sumptuous dinner which took place at Kabira Country Club on Friday.
Indian cuisine and drinks mixed with the local flavours were in abundance. The dinner started at 6:30p.m. and ended at midnight with a traditional music group playing in the background.
But that was just a sample as the best of the party would take place the next day. Indian men came in droves as the beautiful ladies spruced themselves up at the main celebrations held at Kati Kati Restaurant.
And trust Ugandans; they never resist bursting out the moves at any event. You could spot a few dark skins in the audience widely dominated by Indians. Two Bollywood stars Anushka Manchanda and Vinod Rathod were at hand to entertain as they performed together forming an Indian movie-like scene where two lovebirds sing for each other.
The concert was played on live instruments allowing Anushka and Rathod to fix in drama scenes.
The pair was a joy to watch and the audience seemed to know most of their songs as they sang along to almost every song.
But the man who had the Indian brothers and sisters visiting their purses for napkins is comedian Pablo who squeezed lots of laughter out of the audience with his superb punch lines.
He told them of his grandmother who had 13 children in 13 years and she called it the best family planning method; “you know, you can’t get pregnant when you’re pregnant,” Pablo said sending the audience into peals of laughter.
There were also groups that presented Indian cultural and traditional music and dance performances.
The event was organised by Rajasthani in conjunction with the Indian Association of Uganda and part of the proceeds will be sent to the Uganda Heart Institute, according to Rajasthani’s Mr Ashish Singhvi.
