Muteesa Marvis Hope Bogere was in May 2021 diagnosed with End Renal Stage Disease (ERSD). The 33-year old first had a headache and back-pain. She sought medical attention from a clinic where she was treated for an infection but the symptoms persisted with swelling of the legs and difficulty in breathing.

She then went to Jaro Hospital in Kyaliwajjala and little did she know that the news she was about to receive would change the course of her life. At the hospital, the doctor took blood samples and after analysis,  informed her she had an infection in the kidneys.

Worry and anxiety prompted her to go for a second opinion and at St Francis Hospital, Nsambya where she was diagnosed with Acute Kidney Failure. The medical report revealed that her kidneys had declined so much that they could not function on their own.

Marvis was started on dialysis immediately and goes for the therapy twice a week and Nsambya Hospital charges Shs350,000 every time she goes for the treatment.

This can be for the rest of her life but the doctors say she can lead her normal life again if only she can get a kidney transplant and she has hope that she can be well.

According to Anorld Negule, a cousin, “the experts have advised that she gets a kidney transplant that will help prolong her life and this is likely to cost Shs 250m which includes a donor, transplant, medication, accommodation and transport to India for three people.”

Her extended family and friends though determined to support her to extend her life , are overwhelmed by the cost of the transplant.

“She prays and is now determined to fight for her life with God’s grace. The doctors are confident that she still has a chance but the transplant should be done as soon as possible,” says Negule.

He adds that, “this is an appeal we are making to the public to help and support Marvis. Please help her walk this journey to the end.”

“She needs you. We as her family are supporting her all the way and commit to doing everything humanly possible to save her life.”
