No junk, regular tests, and enough rest

Jauarah Nakilyowa, Manager Kampala General Supplies

Jauarah Nakilyowa, a manager at Kampala General Supplies, says she has managed to stay healthy by getting rid of junk and sugar from her diet.

“My skin is very oily, so, whenever I would eat fried foods, I would develop pimples. I changed my diet after realising I was gaining too much weight,’’ she says.

Another trick that has worked for me is getting enough rest. After work, I switch my phone off. I sleep at 10pm and wake up by 6.30am. I also keep my phone off on Sunday because this is the day I relax at home with my family. This way, I create enough time to relax my body and mind.

“I find it hard to drink plain water. However, to stay hydrated, I eat a slice of watermelon at least twice every day,” Nakilyowa says.

I start my day with a glass of water and yellow banana and at noon I eat a slice of watermelon. I normally have lunch at 2pm and supper at 7.30pm. If I miss taking my supper on time, I eat a salad and take a cup of coffee.

Knowing my health status is a must every after three months. “I test my sugar levels, blood pressure, weight and HIV status,’’ concludes Nakilyowa.
