Choose the right exterior colour paint
Constructing a house is always sealed with the exterior finish. When it comes to painting your home, it’s important to select the exterior paint that will best suit your taste and purpose.
Choosing the right paint not only uplifts your home’s potential value, but also contributes to the atmosphere of the neighbourhood and affects how you feel every time you come home.
Ms Pooja Shah, the director of Sadolin/Shree enterprise, says the exterior paint needs to be water proof. She adds that the basic colours include; white, cream and soft white and that people these days opt for rare colours and this can be done by order.
“The colours that are on vogue include peanut, tangerine, apricot, cinnamon but still our clients can order for whatever colour they want at Sadolin and get it. Also, Serena orange and Serena brick red are good for the exterior,” she says.
She adds that their paints are of good quality and they give up to 17.5 per cent discount and the prices depend on the quantity one wants.
Colour choice
When choosing paint colours, one should keep in mind that some colour paints tend to change when painted. For instance, grey with a tint of green in it will read greener than you usually think when painted on the entire house.
Always buy paint from certified dealers or trained professionals because they have large sample boards painted that can guide you on making the right choice.
Buy some few paints for sampling and look at your samples in different light and on different sides of your house.
Bright vs dark
Mr Richard Tuburyahadwe, a partner with Arch Design and Architects Engineers, says you cannot go wrong with white; it is a clean colour that looks good on any home and reflects quality.
He says owners of commercial buildings are opting for darker colours like brown and orange, which do not require a lot of maintenance. He however says that home owners are turning to bright colours like lemon green and white.
Before you go for any colour paint, first look at the theme of the building, for instance, a home needs warm colours to make it adaptable and comfortable.
Always consider the availability of the paint or colour because people tend to use rare colours that are hard to get.
The neighbourhood
Beware of your surrounding and make sure you don’t clash with your neighbour’s homes. This will not only damage the value of properties in your neighbourhood, but could also mean spending more in terms of repainting in case you want to correct that big mistake.
“Light trims are good for reflecting the sun’s heating and lighting effects. Darker tones can help balance the home and land,” Mr Tuburyahadwe says. Mr Hafiz Adams, a home owner, says at first he did not know about paints but when he went to Sadolin offices, they gave him a brochure with all the paint samples. From there, he chose the right colour for his exterior.
“All I wanted was something unique, long lasting, water proof and dust free and I used water guard paint,” he says. Mr Suleiman Ajungule, however, says since he didn’t know anything about paints, all he did was to hire a professional painter for a good job.
