Correcting decor mistakes
Some people want to decorate their houses to perfection. But in the process, they make mistakes and because they do not know decoration basics, they think they have done the right thing.
However, Lillian Kemigisha, an interior designer with New Look Interior Decorations, says, to decorate a house, you need to know what you want to have in your house, and how you can apply it to have a nice look.
Juliet Musoke, another interior designer with Smart House Interior Decorators, adds that people need to know how to use what they have to avoid the following house décor mistakes.
Over-furnishing the room
Juliet Musoke an Interior Designer says at times furniture might turn your sitting room from well planned to a collection centre offurniture. She advises that there should be enough space in the room to create movement and flow. A room should never look and feel cramped. If it does, try moving or removing one piece to see if this helps. Overly-furnished rooms not only make your room seem smaller than it is, but can also make it hard to manoeuvre around.”
poor lighting
Lighting is one of the most important elements of design. Lillian Kemigisha an Interior designer says your space should have as much natural lighting as possible. Do not block natural light sources with poorly placed curtains and accessories. Enhance natural light with the placement of mirrors directly across your source which can either be a window or the door to allow the light to bounce around the room. She explains, “Having a dark room makes it seem stuffy and congested.”
having many photos
Having many family photos in your house congests the room and makes the house look untidy. It is good to have a few photos by binding them in one frame.
Alternatively, you can hire an interior designer to do the job. Lillian Kemigisha an interior Designer says, “Decorators have different ideas and with this, they can help you save money.”
cluttering
Some people enjoy having many multicoloured accessories. However, Juliet Musoke explains that when there is too many cluttered accessories, there is too much distraction. To deal with this, she says, “you should place a few accessories in the room so that each one of them gets the attention they deserve.”
hiding your windows
Hanging curtain rods too low is a very common mistake. Curtain rods should be hung as close to the ceiling as possible to create a sense of height and largess. Rods that are hung too low make a ceiling feel lower, and can make a room feel a lot smaller than it is.
