What career do you want to pursue? What are some of the part-time or full time work opportunities available whilst studying? How can you write an effective personal statement?
These are some of the questions that will be answered at the 13th Annual Rainbow Careers & University Fair organised by Rainbow International School Uganda (RISU) on the 14th and 15th of September at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.
Representatives from around 40 universities from the United Kingdom (UK), Australia, Canada, South Africa and the European Union (EU) such as Newcastle University, University of Birmingham, University of Aberdeen and Thompson Rivers University are expected to grace the fair. It targets both undergraduate and post-graduate students looking at pursuing an education and a career abroad.
Aimed at providing participants with a variety of educational options, it will also act as a direct link between students at schools offering both the international curriculum as well as the UNEB curriculum with the international universities.
“Just like the previous 12 Career Fairs, representatives from these institutions will talk to prospective students about what courses are available and at what cost, cost of travel and accommodation as well as what scholarship opportunities,” Ms. Shona Volrath, the RISU Careers Advisor told Jobs & Career earlier this week.

One stop centre
“Many students do not think about what careers they want to pursue early enough and only wait for their exam results to choose what to do so this is a one stop centre for all the international education needs,” she noted.
This year, nearly 1,000 visitors, including parents, undergraduates and postgraduates students as well as educationists are expected to attend the fair for an opportunity to meet representatives of the universities during the course of the day.
“For example, if you are interested in finding out about energy related courses offered in UK universities or what are the travel and accommodation costs for students intending to study in Canada or Australia are, then this is the opportunity for you to grab,” noted the RISU publicist, Allen Onzima.
Mimi Mirembe, a former RISU student, who is now attending university in the United States after enjoying a flourishing career in the media during her gap year, noted that there was a lot to be learned from all the universities participating.
“Last year, universities in attendance filled me in on the best ways to navigate school applications, providing a plethora of information that would otherwise have been hard to come by. It is a lot easier talking to an admissions representative one-on-one,” she said.
“That way, you can ask all those small questions in the back of your mind that would otherwise go unanswered.”
Entry to the fair, which will start at 9am and end at 5pm daily, is free and no pre-registration is required for the two-day event.
