Rotarians called upon to encourage volunteering
The leadership of Rotary clubs has been asked to recruit youngsters into voluntary service organisations in a move to ensure sustainability of their activities.
“We must look ahead and target young people for sustainability, succession and success in our contribution towards the wellbeing of our communities. We must admit young people and challenge them with leadership,” said Rotarian Steven Mwanje the outgoing District 9200 Governor.
Speaking at the installation of Rotarian Eng. Fred Mubiru as the president of the Rotary Club of Kololo in Kampala, Rotarian Mwanje noted that the biggest challenge of leading volunteers could be overcome by way of inspiring and motivating them.
“Our target is to ensure membership growth by at least ten clubs in the district and to increase the percentage of female membership from 27.6 to at least 30 per cent.
“I must commend the Rotary Club of Kololo for you recruited two females last year,” Rotarian Mwanje said.
He asked the Rotarians to continue supporting the various community activities to sustain the improvement of people’s livelihoods.
“Our strategic plans must be implemented to become relevant to the communities and the club. We must change our focus on innovation, rebranding and communication to show our relevance in the communities where we serve,” Rtn Mwanje said.
Rotarian Mubiru, who replaced Rotarian David Nyende, told fellow volunteering servants to desist from sitting back and waiting for the leaders, but to rather participate as a team to achieve more.
“We shall endeavour to propagate all the programmes that were initiated by the previous administration as well as develop new ones,” said Rotarian Mubiru, a former city engineer.
Rotarian Nyende said: “Serving Rotary as a club president is a very rewarding experience in appreciating and understanding rotary. You discover so much about the potential in you which you hitherto did not know because of the energy and the dedication you exhibit during your tenure in the quest to succeed.”
