Big men do cry sometimes

Cristiano Ronaldo cries after getting injured during the Euro 2016 Final game recently.

The just concluded European Cup 2016 ‘s final game can be classified as a thriller movie that included some drama. And who would have thought that the ‘best player in the world’ would cry like a baby for having to leave the field before seeing his team reach their goal of getting their first European cup.

Ronaldo case
To begin with, no one even thought that Portugal would reach the finals. When they did, all hopes and eyes were on Cristiano Ronaldo to steer his colleagues to a win their country has been waiting for.
Succumbing to his injury, the big man could not hold back his tears and cried while he was being taken away on a stretcher. Little did he know that, his team could also win without him.
I think this was the best part of this tournament when someone’s ego was broken, and still he picked himself up and walked up the podium to rise the trophy of the winners with his team.

Boys are told to stay calm
Talking about men crying is a very interesting subject. Who among us has not heard a parent reminding their son that he should not cry, because crying is for girls! I heard this advice since I was a child, and I often wondered why were boys cautioned not to cry?

How would they otherwise express their pain and other emotions if they were not supposed to cry?

My beloved friend, the late Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem, who was the secretary general of the Pan African Movement and at the time of his sudden death, the director of Justice Africa, a man by all means, however, he was the one who taught me that crying is not a sign of weakness, rather an eruption of human emotions. When he saw me battling with my tears, and boasting about the fact that I’m not a crier he had no kind words for me.

“People who restrain themselves from crying when touched by an event, are not normal human beings,” he said,” Crying is a very human characteristic,” he emphasised. Since then, I have not held back my tears and I’m no longer apologetic about it.

Back to the European cup, it seems that Ronaldo was not the only one to cry. France’s Coman was also in tears, so were many other French fans who also eyed that trophy, an overload of emotions it was, and it takes a lot of drama to beat this in the next European cup!

Our world today is engulfed in problems and crises that it seems tears are mixed with blood. Loss of innocent lives and livelihoods makes most people’s tears run like rivers, while others have cried so much, their tear reservoirs have dried up.

Finally, for whatever reason our tears may roll down, we are reminded by some scientists that it is a good way to get rid of toxins in the body, especially the tears of sadness that helps release stress and anxiety, besides, it is really not bad to cry from time to time.

LET GO
Twenty five minutes into the France Vs Portugal gaeme, Cristiano Ronaldpo got injured and had to be rushed off the field. Meanwhile he could not help but shed tears which left the fans of his team in tears to. He however had to wait fot the end of the gaem because he was in too much pain to resume, While it all happened you could not help it but conclude that big boys too cry.
