Restaurant Review : Yummy buffet spot

What you need to know:

TASTY. It is more than a decade old, 2K Restaurant buffet shall not disappoint.

It has been one year since 2K Restaurant moved to new premises (they own them) on the Hoima road in Bukesa and, things are going swimmingly well with the latest addition being a VIP lounge on the second floor serving an extraordinary buffet in unrivalled comparative luxury.
Funnily, unlike in the case of other non-native genre of food be it Asian, American, and continental. The owners of these joints pay scant regard to such important refinements such air-conditioning and ambience.
The upshot of the matter is that, as a rule of thumb, in Uganda one dines on local food in a local environment minus bells, whistles and other trimmings. But this does not always have to be the case, and as far as I can divine, the latest happening of fine Ugandan dining is the first of its kind and a historical instance at the 2K VIP lounge on the second floor.
Here one is spared having to rub shoulders with the hoi polloi who turn up in droves downstairs where you eat for Shs 10,000 for beans and matooke or rice and this progressively increases as one scales up the ladder up to Shs20,000 for luwombo and accompaniment.

The deal
By all accounts the VIP lounge is the real deal and winner at 2K. For starters, you make your own salad from avocado, grated carrots, sliced tomatoes, beetroots and sliced onions. Next comes the buffet that has matooke (always piping hot and ngamabobezze), depending on the season; steamed pumpkin, yams, sweet potatoes and cassava. Next would be an array of rice including but not limited to goat pilao, steamed rice, biryani rice and any other rice concoction the chef may fancy. The sauces can range from a beef casserole with mushrooms to a sublime and classic beef stew on the bones and these are complimented with ground nut sauce, bean stew and fresh peas sauce. Naturally, a choice of individual chicken or goat luwombo is always on offer and as well as deep fried tilapia, fried gizzards and greens galore.

The quality of the food is of an usually high standard and the service is very professional and certainly on the money,
After such a sumptuous feast, what could be better than a medley of fresh fruits such as pineapples, watermelon and pawpaw as well as sukali ndizi bananas and a simple pound cake.
