RESTAURANT REVIEW: Yummy muchomo at Big Mama’s Kitchen

What you need to know:

Yummy. Mouth watering goat muchomo at Big Mama’s Kitchen, Acacia Mall, Kisementi.

The idea of serving local food in a food court in the mall is as alien as expecting to eat gourmet food in Kisenyi or Bakuli. Ideally speaking, food courts in shopping malls lend themselves to fast foods such as burgers, franks and even Chinese or Indian takeaways.

Given the above scenario it seems odd that Big Mama Kitchen is making her presence known in several malls and as far as local food goes we are disappointed. I doubt if our people would enjoy eating matooke and rice and whatever sauce in the atmosphere of a shopping mall and then how does one do a matooke and beef takeaway?

On the few occasions when we have ordered matooke we felt it was not up to speed. While this effect could be due to limited space in the set up or otherwise we shall never know, anyway, seemingly the Big Mama brand is fast spreading and as we speak there are several in and around Kampala and this is no joke.

Continental treat
Still all is not lost and if you chance to pay her a visit, my advice would be to steer clear of the traditional fare and treat yourself to the continental food. In this case you can choose the chicken muchomo and chips or the tilapia delight fried whole fish and chips which at Shs24,500 is not a bad deal.

I also noticed that they tout a whole chicken with chips, matooke, rice and greens along with gravy which is supposed to cater for two adults and two children and costs Shs49,000. The same combination is also served with goat and costs the same.
