Ladies pairs face elusive tasks at Singleton Challenge quarters

Unlike last year, there are two female pairings at the last eight stage of the second edition of the Entebbe Singleton Challenge tourney.
The knock-out event will have these trimmed to only four pairings by the end of business today at the par-71 Entebbe Golf Club course today.
On a day whose evening is themed as ‘Las Vegas Night’, nearly all would love to leave the course with delight for a perfect hole-out at the 19th of Uganda’s oldest golf club.
Top female pairing of Irene Nakalembe and Eva Magala have been unstoppable, stunning Gloria Mbaguta and Evelyn Asiimwe 7/5 (7-up with five holes to spare), Moses ‘Golola’ Ssebugwawo and Godfrey Byamugisha 3/2, Joseph Bogera and Charles Hamya 1-up over the past rounds. While the bar has raised, the margin of victory narrowed for Nakelembe and Magala, who now face a tricky pairing of Collins Mwesigwa and Ellis Katwebaze.
Luckily, handicap six player Magala is on form having carded four birdies two-under last Saturday for her best round in Entebbe ever to win the ladies’ ticket to the Windhoek Lager Championship in Namibia next month.
“Irene was not on form last time out but we are back and stronger,” said Magala. “We are going to avoid pressure and enjoy our game.”
The other female pairing still in the race for the coveted RwandAir tickets to the World Golf Tour Championships at the luxurious Jumeriah Golf Estates in Dubai, UAE from November 15-18 is Peace Kabasweka and Sheila Kesiime.
The calm duo have quietly gone over their business including eliminating Joseph Galiwango and Ali Juuko 3/2 in the last round. The ladies national team qualifiers should have been a perfect warm-up as they meet Ronnie Kasirye and Robert Busingye.
Also, Paul Kaheru and Uganda Golf Club captain Joseph Bagabo could be potential banana skins for Micheal Tumusiime and Allan Muhereza, the only player to feature at both Singleton quarterfinals. “I will tell my secret sometime later but we are focused,” Muhereza stated after landing the biggest last 16 win of 5/4 on No.14 against Dan Kajungu and Collins Nuwagira.
