To promote global academic exchange and develop digital education, the newly established New Silk Road Institute in Uganda, jointly built by Henan Open University and Kampala International University, has steadily progressed, according to funders.

From August 3 to August 10, 2024, a team consisting of Prof Yuan Zhengdao from the School of Information Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, Professor Wang Yuqing from the School of Mechatronics and Intelligent Manufacturing, and Senior Lecturer Li Zhibo visited Kampala International University (KIU) in Uganda and conducted a week-long offline teaching and training program at both the main campus and the western campus of the university.

KIU Vice Chancellor, Prof Muhammed Ngoma, who received the delegation from Henan Open University chaired a seminar at the main campus through which he lauded their partners for promoting vocational education and modern information technology.
He rooted for enhanced cooperation between the two institutions to jointly promote education and research development.
According to Prof Ngoma, the acceleration of globalization, international collaboration in education and technology have become an irreversible trends.

“I hope both universities can work together to achieve more substantial results in areas such as student enrollment, curriculum development, faculty training, and research collaboration,” he said.
During the seminar, officials from both universities discussed shared concerns and reached a consensus on specific directions for future cooperation.

Prof Zhengdao conducted an engaging training session on web development skills for over 20 faculty members from the School of Computer and Mathematics.
Afterward, the delegation drove over 350 kilometers to the KIU western campus to continue training in automotive inspection and maintenance technology, as well as new energy vehicle technology.

At the School of Mechanical Engineering, Prof Wang Yuqing and lecturer Li Zhibo conducted specialized training sessions for the participating faculty and introduced seven bilingual online courses developed by Henan Open University in the automotive field.

They also demonstrated virtual simulation software for automotive inspection and maintenance technology, as well as new energy vehicle technology. Through hands-on demonstrations and interactive discussions, the participating teachers gained a deeper understanding of the use of the simulation system and its application in teaching.
