What you need to know:

  • Prof Ocitti was a renowned scholar
  • Mourners say he was a man of integrity

LAMWO- Leaders across Acholi sub-region have described the deceased Prof Jakayo Peter Ocitti as a humble and hardworking man who left a legacy in education that will be difficult to match.

Prof Ocitti, 80, a renowned scholar and academician, succumbed to diabetes at Nakasero Hospital last Tuesday.
Kilak South MP Gilbert Olanya said the deceased, who was born in Pader District, has left a big gap in the field of education that will never be filled.

“His death has plunged Acholi and the country into darkness. Not only will Acholi mourn him but also those who value education,” said Mr Olanya.

Gulu District Woman MP Betty Aol Ocan said Prof Ocitti will be remembered as a man who valued integrity more than wealth. “Prof Ocitti was a trustworthy person who will never be forgotten. Acholi has lost an icon,” Ms Aol said.

Mr John Otema, the deceased’s nephew, told Daily Monitor that there will be a requiem mass at Christ Church in Gulu Town this Thursday before he is laid to rest on Friday in Pajule Sub-county.
