Police in Kampala is holding city lawyer Robert Mukasa Lugalambi over fraud.

Mr Lugalambi was arrested on Friday and he is being held at Central Police Station, Kampala over allegations fraud brought against him by about 600 families of nomadic herdsmen from the oil-rich Wanga area of Buliisa District.

According to police, the residents took government to court after they were unlawfully evicted in 2007 by the then coordinator of intelligence services, Gen David Tinyefuza.

They won the case, were awarded costs and damages amounting to over Shs300 million which these residents claim their lawyer, Lugalambi of Mukasa Lugalambi Advocates and Solicitors stole and refused to pass it to the right beneficiaries.

“Soon we shall forward the file to DPP for perusal and legal advice and we expect to take him to court soon,” said Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Mr Emilian Kayima.
