Court orders Tamale Mirundi to shut up over Works PS case

Presidential Press Secretary , Tamale Mirundi

Court has temporarily stopped the Presidential Press Secretary from making any utterances allegedly intended to defame Works ministry Permanent Secretary Charles Muganzi.

In a ruling by Judge Elizabeth Musoke, read by Deputy Registrar John Eudes Keitirima, Mr Tamale Mirundi will have to wait before he can make any statement about Mr Muganzi.

“…The respondent (Mirundi ) is hereby restrained from making any further utterances in respect to the applicant (Muganzi) on subject matters or in issues or causing publication thereof until the main suit is disposed of,” the judge held.

The court decision follows an interim application filed by Mr Muganzi to temporarily block Mr Mirundi’s alleged defamation of the ministry technocrat on local FM radio talk shows with the latest being last Sunday.

The judge also directed Mr Muganzi and Mr Mirundi to file the evidence they intend to use against each other during the hearing of the main case.
President Museveni’s publicist was dragged to court in February for allegedly defaming Mr Muganzi while appearing on Star, Super and Metro FM radio stations late last year and early this year respectively.

However, Mr Mirundi insists granting the temporary injunction would be subject to abuse by Mr Muganzi in that the former would be gagged.

However, court viewed that granting a temporary injunction would not in any way affect the Press Unit as “Mr Muganzi is not that office’s only business.”
Mr Muganzi contends that the defamatory statements uttered by Mr Mirundi, have made him suffer ridicule, hatred and psychological torture.

He alleges that Mr Mirundi depicted him as a corrupt and fraudulent official.
