Do not take loans for 2021 elections, Ntagali advises

Church of Uganda Archbishop Stanley Ntagali has warned against commercialisation of politics saying it is disenfranchising poor Ugandans of the right to participate in active politics.

The archbishop also warned political aspirants against getting loans or selling their land to get money for the 2021 general election.

He made the remarks during his pastoral visit to Mbale Diocese at St Andrews Cathedral on Sunday.

Arcbishop Ntagali said the country is blessed with people who can offer great leadership but they are not joining politics because they have no money to bribe voters.

“The problem we have today in is commercialisation of politics, which has stopped able leaders from pursuing political ambitions,” the archbishop said.

He added: “The voters should stop being so cheap and start electing people on merit.”

Ms Lydia Wanyoto, the chairperson of the NRM women’s league said the Church should identify able leaders, who are not corrupt to groom them to take political positions.
