IGANGA. One person has been confirmed dead and four seriously injured after a suspected bomb exploded at the Tembo Steel Mills in Kasolo village outside Iganga town last week.
Busoga East police spokesperson James Mubi identified the deceased as Rogers Suli. The device is said to have gone off last Thursday morning instantly killing Suli and injuring Dan Katamba, John Okojo and Geoffrey Onyango and a woman who was only identified as Joy. The body was taken to Iganga hospital mortuary for a postmortem before it was handed over to the family. The injured were admitted to the facility.

Sources within Tembo Steel Mills said the device was part of a pile of scrap metal that the five were sorting for smelting and turning into steel. Residents who gathered around the factory after the explosion called for government intervention saying the number of such accidents was on the rise.
“About 10 workers have perished and many more have been left injured in the last four years. This needs to stop...” Mr David Waiswa, a resident of Kasolo said.
The human resource Manager of the firm, Mr Nicholas Elija, however, said it was an accident. He said the device was accidentally supplied as scrap material.
