Guard arrested for hiring out his gun to thugs

KAMPALA- Police at Kasangati Police station are holding a security guard attached to Hi-Tech Security companny on suspicion of hiring out his gun to robbers.

Steven Ndakaza, who was deployed to guard Justar Microfinance office in Kasangati Town Council, was arrested in the wee hours of Monday after claiming that his gun had been stolen.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, said the police became suspicious over Ndakaza’s contradicting accounts regarding the disappearance of his gun.
In his first statement, Ndakazi claimed he was seized and tied by thugs who took off with his gun. Minutes later, he told cops that his gun disappeared when he was dozing.

“The guard has no bruise on his body. There was no sign of confrontation between him and the thugs. He changed his statements forcing us to detain him as we hunted for the gun,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.
However, the gun was found hidden in a bush on Tuesday.
“Our officers were on night patrol when they saw the gun. It was hidden in the bush and covered with boxes,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Police suspect the criminals abandoned the gun before using it for illegal activities.
Mr Owoyesigyire said police was engaging Hi-Tech Security administration to establish the truth.
