Police in Kampala are holding a private security guard for allegedly vandalizing the newly installed CCTV camera equipment.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire said the suspect, attached to SENACA Company, a private security company vandalized camera equipment in Mulimira, Bukoto, Kampala.
The CCTV cameras installed under the National Safe City Project are meant to solve challenges of urban insecurity committed especially by armed assassins riding motocycles and vehicles, according to police.

“The first phase of the surveillance system installation began in June 2018 and has steadily progressed with a number of 693 live CCTV cameras mounted to monitor Lungujja, Old Kampala, Rubaga, Naalya, Bulenga, Kawaala, Kabowa, Nateete, Mutundwe and surroundings.
The exercise is one of the measures that have been put in place to fight urban crime,” said Mr Owoyesigyire in a statement posted on police Facebook page.

Some of the key capabilities of the installed CCTV cameras are surveillance, picking up number plates of wanted motor vehicles, identifying suspected criminals, monitoring traffic flow among others.
President Museveni commissioned the multibillion project at Nateete in October 2018.
