The longest sit-down strike by Gulu University academic staff has finally come to an end after six months.
The staff yesterday voted to call off the strike after they were assured of the availability of the Shs800 million extra load allowances over which they declared the strike in October last year.
The University Vice Chancellor Prof. George Ladaa Openjuru told the assembly before they voted that the money had already been disbursed by government.
He said the university received Shs1.2 billion out of the two billion they asked for to reopen the university and administer end of first semester exams.
Professor David Kitara Lagoro, the chairperson of Gulu University Academic Staff Association told journalists after the meeting that they are satisfied that the money will now be paid.
The Vice Chancellor thereafter announced that students will report back on February 14 for their end of semester one exams.
