A woman in Hoima District in western Uganda has been praised for her bravery after she reportedly grabbed a gun from armed assailants and foiled a convenience store robbery.
Police said Tuesday that two private guards attached to Premier Security Group attempted to rob a convenience store owned by one Nicholas Ntegeka in Kigorobya I cell, Southern ward, Kigorobya Town council on Monday night.
The gunmen first switched off the security lights before advancing to the convenience store where they held Ntegeka’s wife, Ms Byahamu Fautin at gun point before demanding for money.

Mr Julius Hakiza, the Albertine regional police spokesperson said Ms Fautin tricked the robbers by directing them to one of the corners where she had purportedly packed the cash in the bag.
“Fautin took chance of the robbers’ diverted attention to grab the semi automatic riffle from the robbers before she made an alarm that attracted neighbours. The robbers fled," Mr Hakiza said.
The scene of crime was visited by detectives attached to Kigoroya police station for evidence gathering.
The riffle number UG pol 14103509105470, baton and a cap were recovered by police from the scene.

Mr Hakiza said nothing was robbed from the store.
He said the case was registered and being investigated under vide Kigorobya CRB 053/2019.
Ms Fautin reportedly told police that she was initially shocked when she was put on gun point.
As the robbers engaged her in a discussion ordering her to surrender all the money in her possession, she developed a second thought.

"I directed them to pick up the money from one of the corners yet the money wasn't that side. As they were bypassing me, I grabbed the gun from the one who was holding it and started making an alarm. They fled,” she says in a statement recorded by police.
