How police tracked suspected killers of Mbale Hospital records officer

MBALE- About four months ago, Rogers Eyapi, a records officer at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, was waylaid by suspected thugs as he walked home on the night of May 23, 2020.

The attackers killed him and stole an unknown amount of money and a smart mobile phone.

 Eyapi’s body was found lying in the middle of the road near his rented house in Somero Cell, Namatala Ward, in Mbale City.

The Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Rogers Taitika confirmed the arrest of seven suspects in connection with the murder of Eyapi.

He said police detectives started investigations on the day Eyapi was killed.

This was done by tracking a mobile phone which was reportedly robbed from the deceased on the fateful day.

According to police, upon investigations, detectives established that someone in Kampala had Eyapi’s phone.

The phone was tracked and recovered from a one Veronese Katpo who was arrested in Kireka in Kampala. Upon his arrest, Mr Kato revealed a one Issa Avana to have sold him the phone.

Mr Taitika said that Avana was also traced and was arrested in Kampala.

Avana also said that Rajabu Ssemakula is the man who had sold him the phone.

Mr Ssemakula who was tracked and arrested in Kampala that a one Shaban Ukasha sold the phone to him.

According to Mr Taitika, Police traced Ukasha who upon being arrested, said that a one Ronald Masinde sold him the handset.

When  Masinde was netted, he told Police that he only witnessed Shaban Ukasha buying the phone from a one Ivan and a one Awali in Mbale City.

Mr Masinde told police that Awali and Ivan warned the buyer (Shaban Ukasha) that the phone was problematic.

 According to Police, Awali and Ivan reportedly told Ukasha that the owner of the phone was killed as he tried to stop them from stealing it.

Police said they arrested seven suspects in connection with the murder of a records officer.

He said they also established the two suspects (Ivan and Awali) had previous criminal records.

“Ivan and Awali have some pending sanctioned files of robberies at Mbale Central Police Station,” Mr Taitika said.

Mr Taitika told Daily Monitor the suspects have been charged with murder.
