I’m not Jesus, Museveni tells veterans

Kabarole- President Museveni has told NRA war veterans in Kabarole District not to expect him to perform miracles like Jesus.

The President, who is in Rwenzori region to popularise wealth creation in homes, said he would wish to pay all veterans’ gratuity but there were some sectors that needed a lot of funding, such as security and roads.

The chairperson of Katebwa War Veterans, Mr Richard Karozi, had earlier asked the President to compensate people who lost their property between 1981 and 1986 and also those whose houses were burnt by the ADF rebels.

The President, however, noted that many projects in the country would be implemented but money was being swindled by some corrupt officials.

Finding alternatives
He assured the veterans that he cared about their plight and was making efforts to improve their welfare.

Addressing a rally at Nsura Primary School in Katebwa Sub-county on Wednesday, the President announced that he had appointed some UPDF officers in some districts to mobilise veterans on household income and provide them with seedlings and other inputs to increase productivity.

“The problem is that when I tried to mobilise people for bona bagagawale, some of you started singing songs for me to leave power. At least I have some where to start from because I planned for myself. I am worried for you,” Mr Museveni said.
